don't dump - donate!

When you donate your gently used items to the Habitat Cabarrus ReStore, you are changing lives by making affordable homeownership a reality for a family in your own community!

Not only are you making a difference locally, you’re making a difference globally by preventing household items with plenty of life left from needlessly going to waste in a landfill!

Donation Pick Up

Please note: WE ARE NOT to come INSIDE the home to pick up items. Items should be placed in a garage, front porch or at the curb (consider placing a sign noting the items are being donated to ReStore Cabarrus) Apartments must have everything in the first floor breezeway.

Please contact us if you have questions! 704-786-4000

how to donate

Schedule a Donation Pick-Up

If you have larger items to donate and need assistance getting them to a Habitat Cabarrus ReStore location, we offer a donation pick-up service for larger items. Call the Donation Hotline 704.786.4000 or complete an online request form to schedule a donation pick-up.

We suggest scheduling your pick-up at least one week in advance as we often have a high volume of requests.

items we do not accept

Unfortunately, we’re not able to take all items that supporters would like to donate. However, if you call the Donation Hotline 704-786-4000 we’ll do our best to connect you with another local organization that may be able to take a specific item. Although some exceptions may apply, we are not able to accept donations of the following items:

We Cannot Take
  • Clothing/Linens/Bedding/Drapes- There are many other organizations that accept clothing donations, and they do such a good job that there is no reason for us to do the same!
  • Mattresses/Box Springs and Sleeper Sofas- By law, before we resell a used mattress/box spring in the state of North Carolina, we must wash it with a special machine. This machine is expensive, and would drive up our costs, taking away money to go toward building houses.
  • Baby Items
  • Anything that doesn’t work/needs a replacement part
  • Metal Blinds
  • Paint, Stain, Thinners, or other Hazardous Materials/Chemicals- These items are not very popular for resale, and some can be hazardous just to store. Check out the Cabarrus County website for information on how to properly dispose of these items.
  • Shower Doors
  • Unframed Mirrors or Glass- Unframed mirrors or glass have very sharp edges, and are a safety hazard for the staff and volunteers who have to handle them.
  • Appliances Over 15 Years Old- We have to give a warranty on the appliances we sell in our store, and it’s hard to give that guarantee on older appliances. If you have an appliance that doesn’t meet the age requirement, but still works fine, try contacting J Dog Junk Removal. They can take older appliances!
  • Dishwashers- See appliance info above.
  • Storm Windows/Single Pane Windows
  • Computers (except laptops)/Fax Machines/Copy Machines/Printers
  • Swing sets or Playground Equipment
  • Tube-type Televisions (we do accept flat-screen TVs)
  • Toilets
  • Entertainment Centers (unless small/media cabinet)
  • Large Office Desk and Office Cubicles
  • Jacuzzi or Garden Tubs
  • Tires
  • Ladders
  • Non-working appliances
  • Metal bed frames UNLESS with entire bed set
