World Habitat Day
Join Habitat for Humanity on World Habitat Day!
A decent place to live can remove barriers to opportunity, success and health that might have been part of a family's life for years, if not generations.
As the world continues to urbanize, cities will grow rapidly, with the number of people in need of decent housing increasing faster than ever before. To help address this need, the United Nations in 1985 declared the first Monday in October as World Habitat Day, which this year falls on October 2. Habitat for Humanity participates in this annual event because we know that adequate shelter is critical to improved opportunities, health and education.
Did you know that:
- Virtually nowhere in the U.S. can a full-time employee earning minimum wage afford a one-bedroom apartment.
- Better affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development, and the ability - and financial flexibility - to make forward-looking choices.
- Good housing attracts economic investment and development.
- Decent shelter contributes to thriving school systems, community organizations and civic activism.
With your help, we can improve lives and communities.
